What is Blind Puzzle?

Blind Puzzle is a team building game that helps improve your teams communication, team work and problem solving.

Materials: Blindfolds, puzzle(s), surface for building puzzle

How to play: Blind Puzzle

Lay out puzzle pieces on surface.
Have each student wear a blindfold.
Together they must complete the puzzle without taking off their blindfolds.

Need to make it a little easier?

Try letting one student take off their blindfold to guide the rest. Instruct this participant that they may not touch the puzzle pieces

Jousting

What is the Jousting Initiative?

Jousting is a team building initiative that helps improve your groups team work and problem solving skills.

Materials: Milk crates, long rope

How to play: Jousting

Set up two milk crate opposite each other about 3m apart.
Lay the rope evenly from one milk crate to the other.
Split the group in two teams with each team standing behind a milk crate.
One player from each team will stand on the milk crate and pick up an end of rope.
When the leader says ‘go’, they will pull the rope through their hands until they in a tug o’ war situation.
They will then attempt to either pull the other player off of their milk crate or pull all of the rope through the other player’s hands.
If either of these happens, or if the opposing player steps off the milk crate, that team gets a point.

Land Skis

What is the Land Skis Initiative task?

This is a team builiding task that helps improve teamwork and communication within your group.

Materials Needed: Land skis

How to play: Land Skis

Organize the group in to 2 -4 teams.
Provide each team with a pair of land skis.
The goal is for each team to make it from a starting point to an end point using the skis.
Students may not step off the skis.
If they do, they must start over.
You can also set up an obstacle course for students to complete, using the land skis to move from task to task.

Toxic Waste Retrieval

What is Toxic Waste Retrieval?

Toxic Waste Retrieval is a team building initiative task that helps improve your groups problem solving, communication and team work.

Materials: Two empty buckets, two long pieces of rope, various programming materials (ex. Hula hoops, rope, land skis, etc)

How to Facilitate: Toxic Waste Retrieval

Use the two long pieces of rope to form two large circles(the ‘fallout zone’) .
Place a bucket (the ‘nuclear waste’) in the center of each circle.
Split the group in to two teams, with each team taking a circle.
The goal is for each team to retrieve their nuclear waste without stepping inside the fallout zone and without tipping the bucket over.
They may use whatever materials you brought or anything they can find in the area to help them retrieve it.

What is the Birthday Log Initiative?

The Birthday Log Initiative is a team building exercise that helps improve your groups communication.

This is a great transition game from Ice Breaker Games to Initiative tasks.

How to play: Birthday Log

Have students stand in a line on a bench or log.
Without talking or stepping down, they must organize themselves in order of birthdays.

You can also have students organize themselves according to other characteristics (ex. shortest to tallest, by favorite color, etc). Try using blindfolds to increase the difficulty
